          BREAKING NEWS RIGHT NOW

In relation to a frenetic outburst of solidarity and engagement that should guide any scrappy scribe or stalwart citizen in matters of ‘what needs to happen now,’ a TeleSur account about crowds in Seoul that have for weeks demanded–every weekend, including New Year’s and Christmas–that recently impeached President Park resign or that the legislature remove her, a political and social wrinkle, as it were, about which one may rest assured that vast portions of this critically important story remain beneath the surface of what any brief recounting can provide.

                    This Day in History

Readers in the United States today celebrate a 24 hour period that elevates science fiction as a genre, while Japanese calligraphers commemorate this solar cycle as ‘First Writing Day,’ at the same time that the Northern edge of the Caribbean witnesses Cuba’s honoring of Armed Forces Victory Day, and the Southern part of the same sea oversees Colombia’s Black and White Carnival Day; expressing the continuing Hispanic name for Germany, sixteen and a half centuries plus a single year ago, Alemanni fighters availed themselves of a frozen Rhine river to breach the borders of imperial Rome; precisely a thousand twenty-six years on time’s relentless march toward now, in 1492, Spanish forces finalized the Catholic Reconquista of the Iberian Peninsula from Islamic control with the negotiated surrender of the Emirate of Granada; MORE HERE

                A Thought for the Day

wizard ten new commandmentsWhat shall we say at the end of the day to guide us along a halcyon way?
Some believe that such a reprieve is more than we shall ever receive;
Still, at the heart of where we start when we search for such a typecast part
Remain amendments to sacred commandments that merely ask our attention:
To wit,
1. The Golden Rule Reigns Supreme.
2. All Children Receive Priority.
1. All Who Work Are Welcome.
4. All Who Work Are Equal.
5. All Who Work Have Responsibilities & Rights.
6. All Who Work Receive Benefits & Provide Support for Others.
7. All Who Work Own Everything That Labor Transforms.
8. All Who Work Are Family.
9. All Beliefs, Congruent with the Golden Rule, Are Welcome.
10. All Other Matters Are Negotiable.
We’d hardly need a gentler creed to assist us as we try not to bleed
Away all the joys that come, bold or coy, if only we’ll make appropriate noise.

From TruthOut, an update on an ever-evolving, ever-breaking story–Fukushima’s bordering-on-catastrophe radiation discharges–with a video in which Thom Hartmann reads from the EnviroNews article that is at the core of TruthOut‘s report, making a point upon which the lives of many or even all scrappy scribes and stalwart citizens might depend, that “no safe level” of ionizing radiation is possible, a fact that citizen Hartmann also makes via YouTube and that other similar outlets make, as in a Rense Report feature that examines a Canadian activist’s ‘criminal’ case that resulted from his publicizing this danger, and as in a Fairewinds Energy documentary interlude   about these issues in which Arnie Gunderson discusses the ongoing carcinogenic and morbidity dangers that Fukushima represents from now till who knows when.
